As Memorial Day approaches on May 26th, it is important to remember the reason for the observance. It is in recognition of the men and women who gave their lives in defense of our freedom. This is not just to recognize those that have served, but those who paid the ultimate price in that service.

Today, we celebrate with picnics and outings and cookouts with family and friends. Here are some safety tips to make sure you enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend.

  • Buckle up.

  • Don’t drink and drive.

  • Use defensive driving techniques.

  • Only use a clean grill and grilling utensils.

  • Make sure your grill doesn’t have any leaks.

  • Don’t baste meats with the liquid they marinated in.

  • Make use of sunscreen.

  • If you are boating, make sure everyone has a personal flotation device.

  • Avoid foods and salads that have a mayonnaise base in hot weather.

  • Keep all cold foods cold and make sure hot foods are heated properly.

Enjoy your start of the summer and use this tips to stay safer all summer long!
