Try out these strategies to reduce your stress.

April is Stress Awareness Month.  A major goal of this month is to teach people different strategies to deal with their stress.  If you need help keeping your stress levels under control, then here are some of the suggestions that you should try.

  • Unplug from Social Media

While some sources of stress (such as work deadlines or issues within your personal relationships) are obvious, you may also be subjecting yourself to other forms of stress without even realizing it.  For instance, studies have suggested that spending a lot of time on social media can increase feelings of stress, anxiety, and self-loathing.  To ensure that you are not adding more stress into your life, consider unplugging and taking more time away from the social media platforms.  Spending more time focused on your real-life relationships and experiences can help you eliminate a major source of stress from your life.

  • Find Healthy Outlets

While you can do your best to avoid needless sources of stress, it’s impossible to eliminate day-to-day stressors completely.  This is why it’s important to find outlets that you can channel your stress through.  For instance, many people find that vigorous exercise helps them burn off stress and feelings of anxiety.  Other healthy outlets include cooking, cleaning, writing, artistic endeavors, spending time with loved ones, and so on.

  • Talk Through Your Stress

Oftentimes, people attempt to run away from their stress or ignore it.  Unfortunately, this allows the stress to build up which naturally results in even more adverse effects on your mental, emotional, and even physical state.  Rather than pretending that your stress doesn’t exist, you should try talking about it with a loved one.  Acknowledging your stress will not only make you feel better, but it can also help you pinpoint the specific things that are stressing you out.  This can help you avoid these sources of stress in the future.

These are some of the suggestions that you should try to keep your stress levels under control.  Want another way to avoid stress?  Then contact the experts at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas for the easy, stress-free insurance experience that you deserve.  Our dedicated team is eager to assist you with all your coverage needs today.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun Facts

Learn more about this holiday.

St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend!  If you are like more Americans, then you probably associate this holiday with green beer and corned beef and cabbage.  But have you ever been curious to learn more about this ubiquitous holiday?  Then here are some interesting St. Patrick’s Day facts to enjoy.

  • Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland. On March 17th, many banks, stores, and business will close throughout the country.
  • The first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the United States took place in Boston, Massachusetts back in 1737.
  • While we associate St. Paddy’s Day with the color green, the holiday was originally associated with the color blue. The color changed to coincide with Ireland’s nickname, “The Emerald Isle.”
  • Each leaf on a four-leaf clover has a special meaning: hope, faith, love, and luck.
  • 1962 was when the city of Chicago began its St. Patrick’s Day tradition of dying their river green.
  • In the U.S., there are 34.7 million residents of Irish ancestry. This is more than 7 times the population of Ireland itself.
  • Patrick wasn’t actually Irish. He was born in Britain around A.D. 390 to a wealthy Christian family.
  • Patrick was never officially canonized by a pope. This does make his saintly status slightly questionable.
  • The odds of finding a real four-leaf clover is about 1 in 10,000.
  • The most popular beverage on St. Patrick’s Day is (unsurprisingly) beer.

We hope you enjoy these St. Patrick’s Day fun facts this holiday weekend.  Are you looking for assistance with your insurance this March?  If so, then contact the experts at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas.  We are ready to assist you with all your coverage needs today.

Why You Should Get a Smart Home Security System

The benefits of installing a smart security system in your home.

While you already know that security systems are a great way to protect against break-ins and vandals, did you know that smart home security systems are capable of so much more?  Here’s what installing a smart security system in your home can do for you.

  • Control Your Home Remotely

Now, smart home security systems offer the ability to sync up with your home’s smart thermostats, automated door locks, lighting systems, and smart sensors and detectors.  This capability allows you to remotely control various home functions through your security system.  For instance, you could adjust your home’s temperature, lock your doors, switch on your lights, and monitor who is in and around your home even when you are off your property.

  • Save You Money

Investing in a smart home security system can actually end up saving you money in the long run.  For instance, your home insurer will likely offer you discounts for making your property safer.  Having a good security system installed will also increase the value of your home, making a solid return on investment when you decide to sell.  Finally, if your home does get broken into, then the footage from your security system can help law enforcement identify the burglars.  This will increase the chances of recovering stolen items and reducing your losses.

These are some of the reasons why you should invest in a smart security system for your home.  Want another way to keep your home safe?  Then make sure you have the right homeowners insurance protections in place.  For assistance with your home coverage needs, contact the experts at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas today.

Ways to Give Back to Your Community This Valentine’s Day

Show your community some love.

While most associate Valentine’s Day with romantic dates with their significant other, this holiday can also be dedicated to spreading love to your community and those in need.  If you would like a more meaningful way to celebrate this Valentine’s Day, then here are some of the things that you can do to give back.

Volunteer at a School

Unfortunately, teachers are some of the most overworked and underappreciated members of our community.  This is why it’s so important to give our educators the support they need.  Offer your assistance by volunteering at a local school.  You can get involved by reading to students, tutoring them, or simply chaperoning them on the playground.  Your help will take some of the pressure off overburdened school systems and will help the children in your community get the attention and educational experiences they deserve.

Visit a Senior Home or Center

Sadly, many residents in senior homes do not receive regular visitors, and this solitude can deflate their spirits.  Do your part to brighten their days by visiting or volunteering at your local senior home or center.  Simply offering your time will give the elderly members of your community something to look forward to.

Feed the Hungry

Finally, a great way to give is by helping those who do not have enough to eat.  You can get involved by donating to your local food pantry or by volunteering at charities that provide meals to those in need.  By putting in a little time and effort, you can fill stomachs and hearts this Valentine’s Day.

These are some of the things that you can do to show your community some love this Valentine’s Day.  Are you looking for assistance with your insurance this holiday?  If so, then contact the team at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas.  Our dedicated team is eager to get you the coverage that you need today.

Tips for Getting Your Home Ready for a Barbecue

Try out these suggestions to prepare for a barbecue.

Are you hosting a barbecue in the near future? Then it’s important to understand that a successful barbecue requires much more effort than simply throwing some food on the grill. In fact, hosting any kind of party at your home requires considerable planning and attention to detail. Here are some of the things you should take care of to ensure that your home is ready.

Tidy Up Your Yard

If you are hosting a barbecue, then most of the action will surely take place in your yard. That’s why it’s important to make sure that everything looks well-cared for. You should start by raking leaves, trimming overgrown bushes, and cutting your lawn. If you want to add a little more visual interest to your outdoor space, consider planting bright flowers for a fresh pop of color.

Keep Bugs at Bay

Nothing ruins a party faster than pesky, uninvited guests. Unfortunately, dealing with annoying bugs is simply part of hosting an outdoor party. To keep bugs at bay, try burning citronella, running outdoor fans, and applying bug spray. If you live in an area with particularly high bug populations, consider using mosquito nets to keep bugs out of your party space.

Prep Your Grill

Finally, it’s important to make sure that your grill is ready for the party. Make sure that you clean your grill plates thoroughly, and make sure that you coat them with oil to prevent food from sticking. You should fire up your grill a couple of minutes before your guests are scheduled to arrive so you can start cooking as soon as the party gets started. Make sure you keep a fire extinguisher within reach, just in case your grill’s fire gets a little too out of control.

These are some of the steps that you should take to ensure that your home is ready for your next barbecue.  Remember, you should also have the right homeowners insurance to protect yourself and your guests from any accidents.  To get the right coverage to meet your needs, contact the professionals at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas.  We are ready to assist you with all your coverage needs.

Celebrate Spring with This Fresh Recipe

Showcase the flavors of spring with this delicious recipe.

Spring is finally here! Want a delicious way to celebrate all the fresh flavors of spring? Try whipping up this tasty and refreshing cold noodle recipe.

Chilled Soba with Fresh Peas and Soft-Boiled Eggs

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup shelled fresh peas (from about 8 ounces pods), pods reserved
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 Serrano chili, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup kimchi juice (from a jar of kimchi)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon grated peeled ginger
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon chili oil, plus more for serving
  • 6 ounces dried soba noodles
  • 2 cups pea shoots
  • 1 cup sliced quartered radishes
  • 1 cup watercress greens
  • 4 soft-boiled eggs, quartered
  • Sliced scallions (for serving)

Directions:

  • Cook peas in a pot of boiling salted water until tender, about 2 minutes. Drain; transfer to a bowl of ice water. Let cool, then drain. Set aside.
  • Bring pea pods (you should have about 4 oz.) and 1½ cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are soft, 20–30 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a medium bowl; discard solids. Cover and chill stock until cold, about 30 minutes. (We think this is a great way to make use of vegetable trimmings, but if you find the idea more work than you want to do, use vegetable stock instead.)
  • Whisk chili, kimchi juice, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, ginger, sesame oil, and ½ tsp. chili oil into vegetable stock.
  • Cook soba noodles in a pot of boiling salted water until tender; transfer to a bowl of ice water (this will stop the cooking). Swish noodles around; drain.
  • Add noodles to bowl with dressing, along with pea shoots, radishes, watercress, and reserved peas and give it all a good toss to make sure noodles and vegetables are evenly coated. Divide among bowls; top with eggs and scallions and drizzle with a little chili oil.

This delicious noodle dish is sure to impress!  Are you looking for assistance with your insurance this spring?  Don’t hesitate to reach out to us at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas.  Our dedicated team is ready to help you with all your insurance needs.  Contact us to get started today.

Control Your Stress Levels This Month

Try out these suggestions to better manage your stress this month.

April is National Stress Awareness Month, a campaign that looks to raise awareness of the damaging effects of stress on our mental, emotional, and physical health. In honor of this month, you should make an effort to keep your stress levels down. Not sure where to start? Here are some suggestions to help you better manage your stress this month.

Make Time for Relaxation

We all have something that helps us relax, whether it’s kickboxing or knitting. Regardless of what helps you relax, it’s important that you set aside time every day to pursue these activities. When you schedule time to relax, you can prevent your stress from building up and affecting your life. Making time to de-stress will help you keep your stress levels at a manageable level.

Talk About It

Bottling up your feelings is not an effective way of dealing with them. This is especially true for stress. When you try to run away from your stress, it simply builds up and becomes more and more oppressive over time. That’s why you should make an effort to talk about the things that are stressing you out. Not only will you feel relieved, but talking about your problems can also put them into perspective and make them seem far more manageable.

Respect Your Limits

Finally, many people actually manufacture their own stress by taking on more responsibility than they can handle. You should understand your limits and learn to turn down the responsibilities that you know will stretch you too thin. When you learn to respect your limits, you will find that you are far less stressed and have the ability to really focus on the things that are important to you.

Protect Against Identity Theft

Try out these suggestions to secure your private information.

In the digital age, it’s more important than ever to take steps to secure your personal information.  However, as technology advances, so do the hacking skills of cyber criminals.  If you want to keep your private information safe, try out these suggestions to secure yourself online.

  • Update Your Passwords

One of the first things you should do to bump up your cyber security is update your passwords on your various online accounts.  You should try to create passwords that contain a mix of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters to make them harder to crack.  Additionally, you should make sure that you are not reusing the same passwords for different accounts.  Reusing your passwords compromises your cyber security.

  • Update Your Web Browser

The developers that work on web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer are constantly coming out with new, updated versions of the browser.  Along with each new update comes new security features as well.  That’s why you should always update your web browser when it prompts you to.  Having these security updates will make it harder for cyber criminals to gain access to your personal information.

  • Update Your Anti-Malware Software

Finally, you should make sure your laptop has some kind of anti-malware software to protect against viruses, spy-ware, and other cyber threats.  If you already have this software in place, make sure you update it regularly.  Much like updating your web browser, updating your anti-malware software will make it harder for a hacker to find gaps in your online security.

Try out these tips to help you protect your private information.  Want another way to protect yourself?  Make sure you have the right personal insurance coverage to meet your needs.  To find the right policies for you, contact the professionals at The Schwab Agency in Colleyville, Texas.  Our dedicated team is ready to get you covered today.

Get Exercise and Watch Your Diet

Another great way to take care of your heart is by making sure that you get plenty of exercise and eat well.  Getting at least 30-minutes of aerobic activity will get your blood flowing and keep your heart strong.  Additionally, avoiding fatty, cholesterol-laden foods will also ensure that your heart stays healthy.

Smoking increases your chance of developing cardiovascular disease exponentially.  This February, make an effort to break this bad habit for the sake of your health.
